I won't lie, getting started is time consuming. The process is both intimidating as well as exhilarating. A challenge. A commitment. First the idea. Then many many photos are taken, and pondered over, until two or three are chosen for the subject reference, and a few more for the background. This is when basic compositional choices and palettes are decided upon. The spark of artistic excitement begins to take hold.

This is my latest commission. These are 4 month old puppies ; Oliver the English Cream Golden Retriever and Sophie the Golden Doodle. My client wished to capture that fleeting stage of puppy hood, a time that is so busy with training that it is difficult to appreciate the cuteness. This portrait was painted with Prismacolors on 100% rag 4 ply mat board. Dimensions 24x24"
